Architectural device for a forsythe movement | left hand movement | collage of fake concrete walls | side
Welz first filmed Forsythe transposing a written phrase derived from Beckett’s prose. Welz then projected this video and created drawings based on tracing the movements of Forsythe’s left hand. These drawings became the blueprint for the sculptural system of freestanding, curved walls inspired by the unique cadences of Beckett’s writings. Through this progression from language to movement to line and, finally, to sculpture, the resulting installation explores both the physical and mental processes by which we perceive, and make sense of, the figure in space.
